Frequently Asked Questions

If my loved one passes in Orlando, FL, do you service that area?

Absolutely. We are happy to provide affordable cremation services to the Orlando area including Sanford, Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, Apopka, and beyond. We are located just off of I-4 near Orange City in DeLand. Most families come to our office twice- once to provide the necessary signatures and select an urn (if they choose), and once to pick up their loved one’s cremated remains. We have made the process even easier through remote conferences and Docusign.

How much does cremation cost without services?

Our charge for a direct cremation is $895 and all-inclusive. Cremation costs vary throughout the state depending on location and whether you choose a funeral home or a direct cremation provider.

Are you a funeral home?

We are not a funeral home. The biggest difference is that funeral homes offer burial in addition to cremation services. We simply offer direct cremations at an affordable cost. Some people do not want a funeral or memorial service. For those that do, you have the option to plan your own memorial service for your loved one. It can take place at a home, local church, event venue, or even the beach.

How can I make sure that I receive my loved one’s cremains?

Citrus Grove Affordable Cremation ensures you will receive your loved one’s cremated remains. We have procedures and policies in place to make sure of this. It is against the law to perform more than one cremation at a time. Our crematory, Tri-City Diversified, is state of the art and open to the public, with an appointment. It is owned and operated by our family.

My loved one is at the Medical Examiner. What should I do next?

Contact the cremation provider/funeral home of your choice. You will need to sign a form to begin the release process.

What items/entities require death certificates?

You will need death certificates for changing titles to property, bank accounts, attorneys, life insurance, pensions, stocks, annuities, trusts and social security.

How do I get a Certified Death Certificate?

Citrus Grove Affordable Cremation can obtain the copies of the certified death certificates for you. They are also available through the local health department.

Who notifies social security?

Social Security must be notified any time a death occurs. We send a statement of death to the local SSA office (form 721). We encourage families to call Social Security (800-772-1213) to determine if benefits need to be returned or if a survivor qualifies for benefits.

If my will states I wish to be cremated, is that final?

Unfortunately, in most instances a will is not read until final arrangements have already taken place. It is important to advise your family of your choices.

Does Social Security pay for the cremation?

There is a one-time death benefit of $255, payable only to a surviving spouse. It is sent directly to a spouse.

My loved one was a veteran. What are my options?

Upon death, all honorably discharged veterans are entitled to certain benefits, but many may not be eligible for monetary benefits. Here in Florida, we have beautiful national cemeteries that offer plots in the ground or above ground niches for cremated remains for honorably discharged veterans and their spouses.
